Children and Television - Is Censorship Really Necessary?

The obvious answer to this question is, of course, yes it is absolutely imperative. All children will switch on a television and watch it regardless of content. Selectivity is something they learn in their teens but many younger children tend to gravitate to the screen and watch whatever happens to be on at the time, especially if they happen to be snacking on potato chips at the time.

The after school hours are the most popular times for watching TV; that hour of rest between getting home from school and eating supper is the time when many children are drawn to the TV like a magnet, and sit there until they are physically swept up to do their homework.

Bestseller

I have only one child and in fact started a family quite late in life, so it was a shock to me when I turned on children's television and found that, in my twenties and thirties Watch With Mother had been replaced by Grange Hill and The Snotbags. Shock was replaced with horror when I actually watched ten minutes of these programs and found the content full of bad language, slang and offensive behaviour.

Children and Television - Is Censorship Really Necessary?

There was no way I was going to allow my three year old to watch such gratuitous garbage, so the television was promptly turned off until I could collect some suitable material for her to watch on tape.

There followed a number of years when my child watched pre-selected movies and recorded programs only. She watched children's TV at friend's homes only and by the time she was eight years old she had been sufficiently primed with respectability to be shocked at what passed for entertainment in other people's houses.

Not that one would wish to be a prude about such things, and certainly when kids start approaching their teens they need to be aware of what is going on in the world. I do believe, however, that certain programming ethics are geared to boosting viewing figures only, and are in no way concerned with the development of children's cultural welfare.

Program content is designed to shock and appal the viewer, because, let us face it, children love a bit of scary stuff or blood and guts to spice up an afternoon spent in the dreary confines of a classroom. Of course they do - it is what kids do. There is no need to supply them with a surfeit of the stuff, though, and we must remember that we, as adults, are supposedly in charge of what our children see and when.

At the very least we must strive to be aware of what is being consumed by our children in the way of entertainment, and remember that children sponge up not only information but impressions, language and styles of dressing, walking and speaking.

How Women Dress in the Middle East

Dress code for Women in the Middle East.

For those of you who are about to travel to the Middle East, here is a short article about the dress code in this region. This article will give you a quick idea on why women in the Middle East have a particular dress code.

Dior

In the Middle East, women must obey the dress code dictated by the Quran (Book of Islam). According to the Islamic faith, women are to be protected from the lustful gaze of men. It is her duty to guard her modesty through following the Islamic dress code. Allah gave laws to protect women and to save them from being exploited by the media and those who wants to use sexuality to lure men into purchasing services or products.

How Women Dress in the Middle East

The believing women should according to the Quran "lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what must ordinarily appear thereof." [Quran: 24.31]

For the men, "Say to the believing man that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that will make for greater purity for them, and God is well acquainted with all they do." [Quran: 24.30].

The conditions of the women's dress code are as follows:

1. Clothing must cover the whole body and only hands and face can be seen
2. Clothing material cannot be see through
3. Clothing cannot look like men's clothing
4. The design of the clothing cannot mimic those of non-believing women
5. The design on clothing cannot attract attention or contain flashy designs
6. Clothing should not be worn for improving status or reputation

In accordance to these guidelines, the following are some clothing commonly worn by women in UAE.

1. Abaya is a long flowing black gown that is very elegant and used to cover female clothing. The Abaya can be both plain and have some designs on it. Other western or local clothing can be worn underneath the Abaya.

2. Hijab is a piece of material covering the head in order to not expose the hair.

3. Gishwa is a thick black veil that covers the face with a material thin enough for the women to see through but thick enough so that others cannot identify the women.

4. Shela is a material to cover the face. In recent times, some Shela are made with designer materials in order to match with popular accessories of trendy brands like Dior or Givenchy.

The dress code mentioned above is for Muslim women in the Middle East. Since the economic growth in many middle eastern countries and being travel destinations, dress code for visitors and non-Muslims are rather relax. For women, keep in mind modesty and try not to dress in tight fitted or revealing clothing would be a good rule of thumb. Shirts, jeans, long skirts are probably safe clothing. Bikinis and shorts are probably acceptable in certain places. If you are dressed revealing more skin, you may get some unwanted attention. Another thing to keep handy would be a veil in case you are visiting or near religious areas, government buildings and museum.

Men are From Mars Women are From Venus

Relationship Enrichment Seminar

Dr. John Gray author of the best seller "Men are from Mars, women are from Venus"
Dr. Gray mentioned as a preamble to his talk that when his book 'Men are from Mars, Women from Venus' had come out he was questioned whether one can make generalizations in terms of the behaviour of men and women. The only response he gave was whether they resonated with what was written in the book and 100% of the time they replied 'Yes'.

Bestseller

1. The differences between Men and Women are universal. Women all over the world complain that "He doesn't understand". "He doesn't listen". "Only time he touches me is when he wants sex". And men all over the world complain that "She doesn't want to have enough of sex." (Unless the woman is around 37 years. At this magical age women want more of sex than ever before.)

Men are From Mars Women are From Venus

2. Women like affection from men much more than sex. They want to be hugged. John learnt to hug his wife.

3. Men like to be logical. Women like to share and talk even if there is no point in their sharing and talking. Men need to have an objective. They need to see the point in doing something. They can't share for the sake of sharing.

4. Men tend to do one thing at a time. Women do many things at a time. Men have a tunnel vision. 95% of their attention is focused on just one thing and 5% on checking of the environment. Women are just the opposite. They are continuously taking in everything that there is in the environment whether it is useful or not.

5. John narrated the incident of his wife asking him to get some milk while coming home from work. He forgets. She considerately puts it down to his thinking of work. She asks him again. Again he forgets. She takes it personally. It's not that the milk was forgotten but that she was forgotten. Women behave in this manner.

6. Men have their own caves on which the sign states "Please do not disturb." Men like to retreat into their own world where they feel they are in control. Women also have caves but the sign on their caves is "I need to talk". When a man asks a woman what's wrong and she says "Nothing" it really means "Nothing, unless you care to listen and give me an opportunity to talk."

7. 90% of women go into therapy because they want to be listened to. They want to be asked questions. They want to feel special. Men hate to be questioned. If men want to talk they'll talk. If they don't want to talk they won't. When a man is locked in his cave, the woman thinks that something is wrong with him and goes in and asks questions. This is a wrong move for the woman to make. Men hate to be interrogated.

8. When a woman touches a man she may want to be cuddled. But for a man anywhere he is touched leads to Rome and he thinks therefore that it has to lead to sex.

9. Men want to forget the problems of the day. Women want to remember. A man will say "Forget it, it's no big deal." For a woman she will not rest till the problem is talked about. Her response to the man, who wants to just forget about it and not make a big deal out of it, will be "How can you be so insensitive."

10. Men should never tell a woman how she should feel. In fact if she is unhappy, the man needs to be unhappy with her for a while instead of offering advice.

11. If the man is at a loss for saying anything when the woman is feeling bad then instead of offering advice he could build her up a bit by saying "I know how much you work during the day to make the kids and myself feel happy. It must be very exhausting." Her unconscious response would be "He understands." The woman craves for understanding.

12. Women make noises to get attention. Men make noises to signal "Please leave me alone."

13. To cope with stress, sometimes, women while speaking tend to speak in long sentences and then pause. Men think that the pause is a signal for saying something. Wrong. For the woman the pause is just a semi-colon. Men need to restrain themselves in giving advice.

14. When a woman is upset and a man tries to give a solution 99% of the time her response will be "Yes....but". When she is relaxed then give the solution. After she has been given the opportunity to talk about it.

15. If a man tries to walk in a woman's shoes, she will be more willing to understand his point of view. Men tend to expect women to agree with their point of view because they feel it is obviously the best point of view.

16. Men are efficiency oriented. Must do it the easiest and fastest way. Women on the other hand feel that taking the shortest path between 2 points is boring. Women like variation. This is especially true in the bedroom. Men go by the same formula every time while women want variation. Men like uniforms and the same uniform. Men look good in a tuxedo or a suit and that's it. Every time the same tuxedo or suit. Women like to change their dress; sometimes thrice or even more times in a day.

17. When John's book 'Men are from Mars, Women from Venus' was on the bestseller list for 6 years in a row, John realized how narrowly focused in life he had become. He only gloated about his book being no. 1 on the bestseller list. John was missing the little things of life where his wife and children were concerned. Women are able to see the little things in life and be happy.

18. The more narrow the focus of a man the more stressed he is bound to get. He can't notice anything else other than what he is focusing on at that moment. Women deal with lots of problems at the same time and the way they cope is to talk about them.

19. Men use their brain sequentially viz. one part at a time. Where women are concerned it is usually the whole brain at once.

20. Women lower stress through talking and sharing. The collectiveness and togetherness which they share is part of their feminity. Men lower their stress by being alone. Women's attitude is that if we can't do anything about it then let's talk about it and suffer together. Men's focus is on solving the problem. And if they can't solve the problem then they make the problem disappear by forgetting about it.

21. Men always want to be right.

22. Women, unknowingly sabotage their success. They put themselves down because they want support. Women bond by putting themselves down. For example if one is late for a particular function in the office, the woman will say what an imbecile she is by not catching the right train or missing the connection because of some stupid mistake she made and so on. And other women who are also late will do the same.

23. Or if a woman is having a problem with the computer, she will call the so called expert from the computer department and tell him that she doesn't know anything about computers and that she is very happy that he has come to her rescue and thereby push the guy way up there. But when he suggests a solution which she tends to disagree with, she doesn't know how to tell him because if she does it, it makes him come crashing down and he reacts by saying that she has wasted his time. In this case one needs to resort to face saving devices like 'whatever you have suggested will I am sure help me to figure it out (even if you see no utility in the suggestion).

24. As women more and more enter into the workplace their need to being listened to and understood is not being met. The workplace is efficiency oriented. They are becoming more and more isolated. They have to raise their children alone. Unseen and unheard. And this is causing them to go more and more into depression. The man focusses on work no matter what the problems are that are being experienced at home.

25. Man is efficiency oriented. He needs to feel needed. He needs problems to be solved. If there are no job opportunities or there is no effort called for to do something then the man feels depressed.

26. When women feel nurtured they feel happy. They are happy with the small things of life. Man likes to measure himself against the goal he has set for himself. Men behave like squirrels. They focus on one thing, dash towards it and once they reach there then they turn their focus on another thing and make a dash there and so on and so forth.

27. Men see the news on TV especially after coming home, because the problems they hear about and see make their problems seem that much smaller.

28. John's soul sings when he teaches. Need to find one's path and go along it. The fact that one feels fear is because it is one's path. If it was not one's path then one would not be so worried about whether one made an impact or not.

29. The truth is I deserve to be the way I am. I need not be bothered to be perfect in order to be loved. Once one lives in an atmosphere of perfect trust the more authentic one becomes, and the more authentic one becomes the more irresistible one becomes. The closer we are to who we truly are the more people will love us. There will always be people who do not love us.

30. Forgiveness is the key. If someone hurts then one needn't hurt back. As Gandhi said, An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind.

31. Women give more. Men want to get more.

32. Women want flowers to be purchased by men. And they should be cut- flowers. So that the flowers die and therefore the men have to go out and purchase them again and again. They do not want the romance to go out of the relationship. Men on the other hand feel that if they have done it once there is no necessity to do it again and again. But women want things and messages to be repeated again and again.

33. Women sometimes give hints viz. On Sunday they will mention that they are getting their hair cut on Thursday. This is to be taken as a warning signal. The hair cut must be noticed. If a woman has to ask how she looks after she has had a hair cut then there is no value placed on the man's comment. It has to be noticed without being asked. Women put in much more effort in looking good. Men put in more effort in their work.

34. Man wants to be appreciated. Woman wants to be listened to and noticed. Men stress more on what they do while women stress more on their being.

35. Men think that by being flexible they are Mr. Agreeable and that is appreciated by women. Really speaking women want men to take charge and suggest something which they agree on. Mr. Agreeable is boring. The ideal metaphor is to have a man with a plan and a woman with a smile.

36. Sometimes the woman feels that she does everything according to what the man wants. At this point it is necessary for the woman to say "I'll do it this time your way but next time we'll do what I want."

37. Women are always keeping score in a relationship viz. When a woman does anything for a man she always gives herself a point. Men keep score in business. Men need to keep score in a relationship too. They need to do something for the woman so that they too score points from the woman's point of view.

38. At work the man's perspective is not to unnecessarily interfere. A man feels that if he doesn't ask then he is giving total freedom to the woman. But a woman who is a subordinate wants to be asked about her work because silence is taken to mean 'non-involvement'.

39. Women like the small stuff. Chit-Chat. Occasionally ask some personal questions. The magic words are 'What else?'

40. To free a man a woman needs to say 'You don't need to say or do anything and you don't need to feel bad.'

41. Listening creates healing.

42. Women by nature give. But when they find that they are not getting anything in return they need to give to themselves. Men have no problem in giving to themselves. Men don't give enough to others.

43. Men prefer women managers while they learn the job. After learning the job they prefer a male manager.

44. Men sprint faster. Women win the long distance.

45. In men testosterone lowers stress. In women oxytocin lowers stress. Affection, considerateness, being noticed is what produces the oxytocin in women. Therefore men need to learn new skills to produce oxytocin in women. Foreplay is more important for a woman than a man. A woman needs 20-30 minutes of stimulation. A man needs just 2-3 minutes.

46. Women want sensitive men but the danger is that if men become too sensitive then women don't like it. They want men to be considerate but not to be too sensitive just like them.

47. Don't try to fix or change your partner.

48. When husband and wife are business partners then there needs to be clear rules. There needs to be a clear demarcated time when no business is talked about.

49. Duty is important but being authentic is more important.

50. Women can be compared metaphorically to the moon. When the moon is full, women crave for sex. When it is half-full, a woman can have it not have it, it does not matter, and when it is a new moon she couldn't care less.

51. There are different types of sex viz. Healthy, home cooked sex, Ferrari, junk food sex, and Gourmet sex. Once a month one could have Gourmet sex which means bringing in the romance by going out for a dinner and coming home to an atmosphere which slowly climaxes. Whenever he wants sex, and it is a quickie then give it to him. Provided on other occasions there is good, regular homemade sex. In order to arrive at a meaningful understanding one could have 3 candles signifying the 3 types of sex. Either partner finds it very difficult to know the real mood of the other. Depending on which candle is lit and by whom one can behave accordingly. The candle becomes the sign of the mood.

How To Get Over Him - Quickly

Let me make one thing clear: this has nothing to do with love.

I'm no expert. The very word makes me nauseous and sets my body to a defensive mode. But I have had my heart broken once or twice. Badly. By some pathetic loser by the way who, in my blissful juvenile ignorance, contained my whole world: my oxygen, my insides, my reason for being without whom I'd wither and die to nothingness blah, blah.

Bestseller

Somebody should have whacked me across the head with a Dr. Phil self-help bestseller in hard cover - it may have been enough to cause selective amnesia. But no, I have had to endure many, many self-inflicted humiliations the magnitude of which almost surpasses George W. Bush's abundant stream of faux pas, which I suspect include nuking someone's ticker.

How To Get Over Him - Quickly

With no access to a warhead, however, to deploy my heart's retribution, I resorted to good old fashioned emotional meltdown that rivaled Chernobyl. Not only have I said and done it all in the name of witless love - things I loathe to enumerate lest the wrath of Virginia Woolf strikes me dead - I have listened excruciatingly to my girlfriends and their hearts' lament on losing Mr. Loser, er, Mr. Right. And the twisted plot to get him back.

What I bemoan most of all is that not one good sista gave it to me straight. That I will change.

So, if a looming break-up is coming your way (trust me, we can all see it coming!), read, learn and gain wisdom from the mistakes of others because you don't want to make them all!

For the ladies who have been-there-done-that and, hopefully, out of the singles jungle, enjoying the safety and comfort of Tarzan's little love-nest high up on the treetops, be a real friend and show the girls how it's done.

Delete, delete, delete ... all traces of your ex.

If your memory is better than mine, there are two phone numbers you know by heart: your mum's and your ex's. In your quest to "get over him", first, delete him from your digital memory store starting with your mobile phone. Erase his mobile number, work phone, home phone, his best friend's number, his mother's number - especially!

If you're an IM user, block him immediately and blacklist his email address from your mailbox.

Then remove every piece of clothing, toiletry and dirty underwear he left behind in your bathroom. And no, don't even think of washing and neatly packaging these into a bundle for him. The concierge has closed and will not be re-opening. Ever.

Whatever you do, DO NOT call him.

It's pathetic, really. What are you hoping to accomplish? No, you won't get him back because he's not coming back. The bottom line is if he dumped you, he's not into you. Sound familiar? The word on the street is true and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.

OK, so there are those lucky people that get back together and live happily ever after.

In the movies!

If you're living in the same world as I, you know it's the exception, not the rule. Sadly, most women seem to think, to their detriment, that their situation is somehow always an exception: as if they live in a parallel reality where the rules of engagement do not apply because for some unknown and far-imagined reason, many are under the illusion that they're immune to life's cruel veracity. Well, you're not. The rule of life rules, unless the odd exception, freak-of-nature type event occurs. And it rarely happens. The sooner you realise that, the better.

So, in your moment of pathetic weakness, it's completely understandable and even acceptable to max out your credit card for much needed retail therapy. Even indulge in uncharacteristically obscene behaviour including binge-drinking, a drunken pash or two with complete strangers, or hysterical emotional outbursts in embarrassingly crowded places. Just make sure you're in the company of people who give a damn about you - your friends.

Scream. Cry. Laugh. Do whatever it takes to flush him out of your system. But for goodness' sake, do not call your ex.

Should I return the gold watch he gave me?
Are you kidding me? It's yours. Keep it. Or better yet, take all the valuable items he's ever given you to cash converters - the gold necklace for your birthday, the beautiful pair of earrings last Christmas and that gorgeous bracelet for Valentine's Day. Then buy yourself a new pair of Jimmy Choos. It will elevate your height as well as your mood.

Turning his precious little gifts, which are rightfully yours, into cold hard cash will satisfy a scorned woman's desire for sweet revenge. Albeit briefly. But who cares? Right now, little victories are what you need to get you over the line. And over him.

Let's be friends? Yeah, right!
Oh, please! If you are insisting on remaining friends with an ex who dumped you like vomit, you're up o something and it won't do you any good.

Problem is, you can't see it. So let me make it clearer for you: he's not coming back.

Wake up and smell the stench. You're standing on a gigantic pile of horseshit collected over the years starting from the time you believed in the myth of Cinderella. Didn't you know? She divorced her prince two months later: they weren't compatible after all.

So, think long and hard about your real motivations. Life is good but it ain't a fairytale.

If he's the one wanting to remain friends, well, beware. Remember, he dumped you. So it's neither an invitation for renewed romance nor for any kind of "real" friendship you want or need right now.

Let me tell you a little secret. Most guys, unfortunately, are cowards. They are scared to death of hurting our feelings because we all go "emotional on them!. They will do anything to weasel their way out of very difficult situations. The fact is, if he wants you, and I mean want-you-so-badly-it-hurts, there are no mixed messages. He will move heaven and earth to be with you. If he's not in to you, the only thing he'll move is his thumb: "want 2 come over 2nite?"

Need I say more?

Get a life ... darn good one!
The sweetest revenge is to live a happy life. And it's the only way to live.

But first, change your sheets.

Call your friends. Dance around the house in your underwear or naked if you prefer. Attend a party. Drink good champagne. Wear amazingly red lipstick. Strut around in ridiculously high stilettos. Visit your hairdresser.

Smile.

Chat up a good looking guy at a funky bar. Wear perfume. Flirt. Play games and play it cool. This time, you're the predator, not the prey. Take a risk.

You're so sexy. Who wouldn't want you?

And if you're still weary of rejoining the singles jungle, here's a tip: run an ad for a male flatmate. You may be surprised at what you'll find. Tarzan might just come knocking at your door.

Live life. It's the only one you've got.

Closing Techniques to Make You More Money

Closing skills will be a great persuasive tool to get under your belt, and the sooner you do so the better. Remember, as the salesperson--whether you're selling a product or trying to get your teenager to understand your point of view--you are in an advisory role. You are your prospect's advocate. The more you can operate in her/his best interest, the more s/he will sense this and agree to your input. The closing skills you have learned in this chapter will help you to persuade more effectively. Now, knowing the process, you will understand what is happening each step of the way and you will intuitively recognize where to guide your prospect. When you get these skills down, you will be pleasantly surprised that effective persuasion is an easy, fun and natural process.

In the beginning, you will experience moments of awkwardness when you forget exactly what to say or do. There will also be times when your prospects will throw you for a loop and you won't remember how to respond. When this happens, don't be too hard on yourself. As time goes on, you'll experience a natural learning curve. Just make note of areas you'd like to strengthen and work on them along the way. This kind of conscientious attention will soon help you hone and polish your selling abilities. After every sales attempt, take the time to analyze the situation. What did you do well? What could you have done better?

Bestseller

1. Direct close--Simply ask for the sale. "Shall we get the process going for you?" "Sounds like a great fit! Are you ready to move forward?" "Let's get the ball rolling, OK?"

Closing Techniques to Make You More Money

2. Assumption close--Rather than ask if your prospect wants to move forward or not, assume the sale and give her/him a choice of one option or another. This closing technique solidifies the sale. For example, "Would you like the blue or the green?" "Do you want it delivered, or will you be picking it up?" "Will that be cash or charge?"

3. Take-away close--When your prospect hesitates, say, "Just a minute--let me make sure we have this in your size." "Let me see if we have this item in stock." "Let me check with my manager." "This product is not appropriate for you." Closing strategies like these create the impulse to move ahead with the purchase so your prospects don't forfeit their opportunity.

4. Summary close--Restate the list of benefits your prospects have cited as important to them and list them in order of priority. This closing strategy confirms and validates in your prospect's mind all the valid reasons for the purchase. It also shows your prospect that you have been attentive and understand her/his needs.

5. Puppy-dog close--Let your prospects touch, taste, feel and experience the product or service as much as possible. Put them in the actual situation, either literally or through helping them create a vivid imaginary experience. This closing strategy helps the prospect become attached.

6. Pro-con close--Walk the prospect through the thinking process. On a piece of paper, draw a line down the middle and write down factors that help your prospects compare and contrast how many more pros your product has than cons. This closing strategy is excellent for analytical personalities.

7. Order-sheet close--Fill in the order sheet from the start of the conversation. This closing strategy reinforces a subconscious commitment on your prospects' part. If they hesitate, explain that the form just helps you get all the details. In completing the form, be clear on what your prospects are looking for. Assure them that if they aren't ready to make a decision, the order form will not be processed.

8. The relevant-story close--People think in terms of stories. Relate to your prospects the experience of another client in a similar situation who moved forward and was very happy with her/his decision. This closing strategy also works in the reverse: someone who did not purchase and later regretted it.

9. Ascending close--Pose a series of questions to your prospects that will all elicit a "yes" response and lead to the point of purchase as the obvious step to take. This closing strategy reinforces subconscious affirmation of the product's benefits and ability to meet your prospects' needs. "Yeses" increase desire, while "nos" decrease desire.

10. Reduce-to-the-ridiculous close--Break down your product's costs into minute units: "For a mere 22 cents a day, you can enjoy the benefits of our product." "You can change your life by investing only 50 cents a day."

11. Real-reason close--After you have tried everything, thank your prospects for their time. They will then sense that the exchange is ending, so their resistance will subside. Ask your prospect something like this: "Mr. Smith, I tried to present the information the best I knew how. What is the real reason you did not buy today?" After receiving an answer, see if you can address the concern and re-close.

Last but not least, remember that in this process, everyone wins. Salespeople are what make the world turn. You will often be the one who nudges a person just enough so that s/he'll take action. There are countless things that would remain undone if it were not for a sales rep's guidance and instruction. In the end, your prospect is happy because you gave her/him the courage to act, and you're happy because you know you've made a difference.

A Review of the Book "Confessions of a Shopaholic"

The book "Confessions of a Shopaholic", by Sophie Kinsella, is a joy for readers who want to read a fun light-hearted romantic comedy. In the novel, the protagonist, Rebecca "Becky" Bloomwood, loves to shop. She shops for everything like Christian Dior replica handbags, Hermes replica handbags, Juicy Couture replica handbags, scarves, designer clothes, and designer shoes. The only problem is, she works as a financial journalist for a relatively small magazine called Successful Saving, which does not pay enough to cover all of her expenses.

The book starts by introducing the main character, Rebecca Bloomwood, who works for the financial magazine Successful Saving in London, England. She is not in love with her job, but she is in love with shopping. She shops all the time, without considering the consequences of her spending. Becky continues to get letter after letter from her bank, telling her she is overdrawn and all of the credit card companies telling her she needs to make payments on her balances. She even comes up with funny excuses as to why she can't pay her bills. She tells her account manager at her bank, Derek Smeath, that she can't pay her bills because she has a rare disease and she also tells him that she can't come to a meeting because her leg is broken. The excuses Becky uses to avoid Mr. Smeath become more humorous as time goes by.

Dior

In the middle of all of her financial woes, Becky catches the eye of a man named Luke Brandon, who owns a PR Company, Brandon Communications which represents financial companies.

A Review of the Book "Confessions of a Shopaholic"

Soon, Becky uncovers a scam when two of the big financial companies get their clients to switch their pension funds into new accounts before one of the companies is bought out and pays their clients lots of money. The problem is, one of the companies is a company that Luke represents at Brandon Communications. But, Becky releases the story to the press anyway and quickly she gains praise from people all over London, while also catching the eye of a television producer, who wants to have Becky on their show to give financial advice, which is funny because Becky is still in debt. She also gains the respect of Luke, who sees how talented she is and is grateful for her for showing him how bad his clients were to their clients.

Of course, in the end, Luke and Becky become a couple and Becky is offered a job at the show Morning Coffee, where she gives financial advice to people who call in and tell her their financial woes.

This book is charming and witty. Becky Bloomwood learns important lessons about self-confidence and the importance of controlling her spending. The book's heroine is lovable and the reader finds him/her self hoping everything works out for Becky. So, if you are a reader who is looking for a fun, coming of age story, then "Confessions of a Shopaholic" is a must read.

Transformers Games

It is indeed genius marketing trick, transforming bestseller video games into movies and vice versa. Although, nothing but a disappointment for loyal funs. Think back, do you remember Resident Evil? People used to whine about it for a really long time. Sure, judging by the box office it was a great success, the fact is most of people who actually had an idea about RE prior to watching the movie, DID NOT like it, box office success was anticipated according to amount of video game funs. So what drove all these people to cinemas was just an interest. It was exactly the same for Tomb Rider. Sure it was fun to see A. Jolie as a Lara Croft but movie was a total Crap!

Well Transformers the game. People used to spend endless hours not just in childhood watching the most perfect and magnificent Anime ever made. I'd say there aren't many people who don't know about mighty Optimus Prime.

Bestseller

Transformers the game is a multiplatform video game, X360, PS2, PS3, Wii, PC and even NDS and PSP.

Transformers Games

System Requirements for PC:

Pentium 4 2 GHz, 1 GB RAM, VGA 64 MB (GeForce 4 or better), 4 GB HDD, Windows XP/Vista.

It's a Third person shooter/Action game. Player can choose between autobots and Decepticons (what a surprise) Robots have multiple attack types, something like light weapon, heavy weapon, melee and ability to throw cars and stuff like that. Well obviously they can transform into cars and back to robot form, which is important for some missions. Collection of "Energon cubes" unlocks cool videos, photos, special characters etc. In other words, all of this was predictable but the work developers have done wasn't effortless. It is actually quite engaging. Cool gameplay. Pretty nice graphics and sound effects especially the Wii version. Many people, especially the ones who are into "mecha" type games going to like it. I'm saying it could have been much better!

Women in Nylon Stockings

Nylon stockings are intimate accessories. This will look good before turning the lights out with the partner. But these things are usually worn under the skirt.

Some companies have this as part of the uniform code like nurses who work in the hospital. But many women choose to have it on because it looks good with the outfit. This is used either in the office or when wearing one of those short skirts to show off to men in a party.

Dior

Nylon stockings can either be until the ankles, a little above or below the knee. A good example could be the one from Christian Dior that is called the Thigh Highs. There are 4 sizes so this can be used for those who have small or big hips and costs .50 for each, which are available in only black and white.

Women in Nylon Stockings

Fredericks of Hollywood is also another brand that offers a variety of nylon stockings to customers. A good example is the two tone Cuban inspired heel stockings. It has a seam from the hips until the heel.

The only drawback is that this is only available in nude/black. There are other brands that offer this in other colors, which is worth checking out. It is available in small, medium or large and costs per piece.

Nylon stockings are not only sold in the store but also online as well. This allows men to shop for that special someone without feeling awkward of going to the lingerie department and asking the sales clerk for assistance.

Having a sample or knowing the size of the partner's hips will be a good idea to avoid returning and exchanging it for the right one.

Given the increasing demand of nylon stockings in the market, the woman can choose from a variety of colors and styles. Some will stay up by itself but those that don't will require the use of a garter belt that has to be hooked to the girl's underwear.

Most of the nylon stockings sold for women are in single packs. Some brands have promotional offers that allow the customer to save a few dollars when at least three are bought instead of just one.

Both men and women should take advantage of it because even if nylon stockings last long, these things will run due to wear and tear prompting the individual to again at the regular price.

How to Write a Bestseller in 40 Days Or Less

Are you an aspiring author? Do you ever dream of writing a best selling book and getting all the notoriety and riches that come with it? Wait no more. "How to Write a Bestseller in 40 Days or Less!" by Barbara DeBolt is a complete step by step guide to writing a bestseller in 40 days or less.

Bestsellers as Formula Books

Bestseller

The premise behind the books is that best sellers are nothing more than formula books. A formula book is a book that fits a certain pattern - A happens before B which happens before C but at the same time as D and so on. In fact, if you read a large number of best selling novels in a particular genre - say adventure novels like Clive Cussler and the like, you will notice that they all follow a certain rhythm. You would expect the rhythm of a certain author to be fairly consistent but if you read 10 best selling authors in that genre, you will find that the rhythm/ the pattern of the books by all of them are almost identical.

How to Write a Bestseller in 40 Days Or Less

The Book

"How to Write a Bestseller in 40 Days or Less!" walks you through a particular formula used in best sellers for a variety of sizes of books - from 40,000 words up to 625,000 words. It breaks down the books into the specific flows that need to be followed and what percentage of the book should be related to each of these flows. It is an appropriate guide, a recipe if you will, for writing a fictional best seller.

It states that each book should roughly have the following sections (all of which must be presented at exactly the right point in the book and for the appropriate number of pages to give maximum impact.)
Introduction of characters and the mood of the book The main issue/theme of the book - what is going on A strong development of the main character and the theme Turning point - an event happens to the main character that wraps that character into the theme The hero begins to mold himself or herself to the events at hand The hero becomes completely committed to solving the issue All heck breaks loose - chaos The hero gets a grip on all these loose ends and begins to pull them together The wind down - loose ends are all tied together and the conclusion is reached - with perhaps hints of left over bits that can be wrapped into a sequel.

Obviously, there is a lot more to writing a best seller than just following this formula but chances are your fiction work won't become a best seller if it doesn't follow this formula pretty closely.

How to Proceed

If you are serious about writing a best seller or even just a darn good novel, I'd recommend getting this book and reading it. It is a quick read. Including all the formulas, it is only a bit over 100 pages. After you read it, pick up a best seller and find the formula that most closely matches the length of the book and start reading the book. Make notations on a piece of paper when you identify the elements that are discussed in the book and see how closely they parallel the formula.

Once you have done this exercise, you have begun to internalize the flow of a best seller.

Now do it a few more times with a few more best sellers to really get a strong grip on the formula.

Once you are very comfortable with the formula, you need to start writing. This may sound silly but the best way to get into the flow of best seller writing style is to actually take a few best sellers and write them out by hand. By doing this rather painful but quite effective exercise, you will internalize the style(s) used within the pages - the action words used, the scene transitions from chapter to chapter, the character interactions, the balance of conversation vs description, etc.

These are skills that need to be mastered to bring the formula to life. By taking this "shortcut", you will have a much higher chance of success than just sitting down and starting to write. In fact, with this formula, you can do the above exercise at the same time you are writing. Since you know how the sections of the book need to break down, you can just work with a portion of several existing best sellers and then work on your own version of that portion of the book and sort of go back and forth until that section is polished. And then, move on to the next section.

Not a quick process

In spite of the premise of the title - writing a best selling book in 40 days - expect it to take longer unless you are already a gifted writer. Writing, like anything else, is a skill that must be mastered, There is a careful balance that must be achieved in the book to bring it and the characters to life and that only comes with practice.

Do I recommend the book?

If you are truly interested in giving it your best shot, the book is a shortcut. All the information presented in the book is already in the best sellers themselves but it takes time and energy to build the roadmap yourself. I give the book a B rating because I don't believe it stands completely by itself. In other words, I don't think many people could pick it up and learn how to write a best seller - but I do think it can certainly help.

However, I personally believe you will better integrate the process by taking the longer route of building the roadmap yourself. If I were going to do it, I would choose three best sellers by three different authors in the genre I was interested in and I would handwrite each of the three books and make notations about flow, character style, etc. as I went along for each book. I also would have a long term goal of having a first book written in 12 to 24 months and tackle it as a part time effort so the process and the creative effort stays enjoyable.

Eldest Child Syndrome - Are You What Your Parents Have Made You?

Do you have a people pleaser personality? Have you ever been in a situation where you begin to wonder whether other people's expectations of you exceed your ability or willingness to deliver? Of course you have! Silly question - unless you're one of those super-humans who know how to say no without saying no.

BIRTH ORDER AND SELF

Bestseller

Thing is, there's a limit to what you can do, isn't there? I'm one of the sandwich generation so I have both young grandchildren for whom I care twice a week whilst my daughter teaches, and parents, with various health issues, who also require a degree of support. In addition, I job-share with my husband - that's how we make our living - and I write.

Eldest Child Syndrome - Are You What Your Parents Have Made You?

When I went down with 'Female Flu' a couple of weeks ago (so much worse than the Man Flu variety, because you have to keep going) I managed to keep most of the balls in the air, but some simply had to be dropped. So when I found myself expected to take on a family commitment at the weekend when I might, otherwise, have given myself some me-time to recharge my batteries, I wasn't exactly delighted. I know some people know how to say no without saying no. I'm simply not one of them. Besides, I'm in that unenviable position of being a firstborn child.

SIBLING POSITION

According to the Wikipedia website, one of the first people to suggest that birth order has an effect on personality was an Austrian psychiatrist, Alfred Adler. A contemporary of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, he argued that the way in which each of us tackles the major aspects of life - friendship, love and work - is greatly influenced by our birth order in the family.

Now I know there are those who passionately believe in first child syndrome and others who feel there's nothing in it. Advocates identify the following traits in the eldest child in a family, by saying they are:

High achievers Good leaders Conscientious Self-sufficient Perfectionists Eager to please Have high expectations of themselves Feel responsible for the welfare and harmony of the family Low self-esteem (because they can't live up to expectations) Sensitive and in need of constant assurance

PEOPLE PLEASER?

Do you - if you are a firstborn child - adhere to those characteristics? Do you, for instance, have a people pleaser personality? Have you high expectations of yourself? Are you in constant need of assurance that you're fulfilling what's expected of you?

To my mind, there are arguments for and against. The gap between sibs must play a part, surely? If the eldest is at school, or has left home before the next one arrives, what then? The eldest would have been an only child prior to reaching school age and would, in effect, continue in that vein. And what if there's a different combination of genders? Say a girl followed by several boys. Or vice versa: a couple of girls followed by a single boy? I can't believe that the same principles hold for all scenarios.

ARE ALL ELDEST CHILDREN HIGH ACHIEVERS?

It seems to be widely accepted that the first baby to be born into a family will grow up with a tendency to be analytical, methodical and high achieving. Whether every firstborn adheres to these attributes is debatable, not least because as a firstborn, myself, I show none of these traits. Creative, naturally flexible and spontaneous (though I've disciplined myself to be orderly where to be otherwise causes me grief) my only achievement was a No. 4 bestseller - and that crept up on me unawares! The familyrappwebsite continues, with the following statement this child values control and once again this is the very opposite of my personality. Perhaps there's something my parents aren't telling me, and I'm not actually the eldest child in our family?

RESPONSIBLE I have certainly never had any desire to be a leader of anything whatever! As an author my interests and pursuits are those of an introvert. I could, however, be described as self-sufficient, am conscientious, a perfectionist and have high expectations of myself - especially when it comes to feeling responsible for the welfare and harmony of my family. The sticking plaster mentality is probably true of many women. For me it's - well - sort of stuck into my personality. If someone's hurt or in need, I suppose I see myself as the one who has to tend and cover the wound!

Which is why I find it so difficult to say no and mean no. It doesn't live up to people's expectations of me, you see. Nor, of course, my own.

UNDERSTANDING SIBLING RIVALRY

I suspect that the whole eldest child syndrome is, actually, the result of how firstborns in the family are treated, and what expectations are made of them. 'Now you be a good boy/girl, and look after your little brother/sister' is the usual mantra. My parents told me - on the one occasion I tried to stick out for something I believed in that went right against what they were asking of me - that my acquiescence had been taken as read. They simply never expected me to oppose them and were shocked and hurt that I should do so.

All of which leads me to believe that eldest child syndrome is less to do with the innate personality of a first born child, and more to do with conditioning by parents and other adults. Perhaps if we take a look at middle child syndrome next week that will reveal more?
